The PPMC is an open and inclusive platform that actively invites all organizations and initiatives that support effective action on transport and climate change to join in the process. The PPMC is created to strengthen the voice of the sustainable transport community in the UNFCCC process, especially with a view to the upcoming Conference of Parties (COP21) in December 2015 in Paris. COP21 is expected to result in a new global agreement on climate change, which will shape climate policy in the years to come at a global, regional and national level. By bringing together different actors and stakeholders in the sustainable transport community it will be possible for the transport sector to have its voice heard and speak with one voice on the important contribution that sustainable mobility can make to the mitigation of, and adaptation to climate change.
For more information on the PPMC download the Fact Sheet Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (draft 25 May).
The PPMC contributes to realizing a Global Agreement on Climate Change that empowers transport sector to take action on climate change. The realization of this objective requires an active engagement of the PPMC before, during and after COP21. It will be equally important to advocate for an agreement that incentivizes the transport sector as well as work with the transport and climate community on the implementation of a new global agreement on climate change at the global, regional, national and local levels.
The Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and Michelin Challenge Bibendum (MCB) have taken the initiative for the PPMC. Together they bring together over 150 organizations working on sustainable mobility representing multi- and bilateral development organizations, financing institutions, civil society and foundations, academe and the business sector. The PPMC is an open and inclusive platform that actively invites all organizations and initiatives that support effective action on transport and climate change to join in the process.
The PPMC will develop a set of common messages on mobility and climate to inform the discussions on transport in COP21.
The PPMC supports other initiatives on transport and climate change. This includes the commitments on transport made at Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s Climate Summit in September 2014 as well as other emerging initiatives that have come up since then. It will, where appropriate, provide support to the Lima Paris Action Agenda, which was created to provide a follow up to the outcomes of the SG’s Climate Summit especially in the context of COP21.
The PPMC Operational Plan is now available. The Plan gives an overview of the common messages, knowledge products, thematic dialogues, and PPMC events during COP21. It also lays out the outreach strategies and the coordination of different stakeholder organizations under the initiative.
We would like to hear your comments and input on the PPMC Operational Plan. The Plan is intended to be a living document and the next draft will be available by early September.
A Summary Presentation on the PPMC (Oct 19) is also available.
